This week I had the opportunity to meet and spend the morning with my favorite fabric designer --
Marcia Derse (pronounced Der-See). Those of you who know my fabric loves, knows how much I
adore her fabrics. Her style is unique, not the cookie-cutter stuff you see out there. Yes, I confess I have a holy drawer in my fabric storage bins practically devoted to her fabric.
Uncut.
:-)
I'm geek like that.
And now that her fabric is being mass-produced, that makes me even
more happy. You can see her fabrics here through
Troy Corporation's Riverwoods collection. I first fell in love with her fabric at the Cincinnati quilt show.
The moment I saw her Streamline collection, I was in love. You see, we own an airstream, which is similar to the trailer of the collection's signature icon.
When we got there, the first friendly face we met was, Marley, her four legged furkid... Such a sweetie pie!
We first got a short demonstration in her carriage house. She showed us how she starts her process using Pimatex PFD cotton fabric, silkscreen paints, extender and her "low tech" tools (bubble wrap, plastic spoons and various brushes from garage/estate sales). Marcia says she's not "up" on the technical aspects of her craft, that she just plays. After this part, she then overdyes the fabric, if I remember correctly.
We then moved into the house where we saw several of her art pieces displayed. Yes, they are made using her fabric.
Stay tuned for my next installment. I'll show you her studio and all her luscious colorful fabric...
